Reindeer Jar instructions © by Cindy Trombley 2004 Paint Palette: Deco Art Americana: Sable Brown Rookwood Red True Red Burnt Umber Soft Black Antique White Black Plum Gooseberry Pink Metallic Emperor’s Gold White Light Buttermilk Mink Tan Delta Clear Gloss Glaze or Satin Glaze (whichever you prefer) Supplies: 24 oz. Vlasic Pickle jar, or a jar that stands aprox. 6” tall 3” Terra cotta saucer Rusty jingle bells One branch of fake christmas pine branch 3 prim wooden stars, size of your choice One sheet of foamie craft sheet Hot Glue Jar preparation: With any brand of spray paint, and in a well-ventilated area, lightly spray jar. Let paint dry in-between coats. Give jar about 3 good coats. Let dry. This is a very quick method and takes only about 20 minutes to complete. Let the final coat dry and then basecoat according to directions. Step by step painting instructions: Basecoat the entire jar with Sable Brown. Float Burnt Umber under the rim of jar, all the way around. Also float Burnt Umber all along the bottom of jar. Add 3 loops of brown hair to top of jar with Burnt Umber. Shade the bottom of each loop with Soft Black. Eyes, lashes, and mouth line on with Burnt Umber. Float Mink tan on top of each eye and on top of the mouth, as shown in photo. Nose using a circle stencil if you have one, pounce on with Rookwood Red. Float Black Plum on bottom of round nose. Highlight top of nose with True Red. Add a snowflake highlight to top of nose with Light Buttermilk. Using a stencil brush pounce cheeks on with Rookwood Red, then pounce on over the Rookwood Red with True Red. Add a Light Buttermilk dot to the center of each cheek. Antlers, cut out of foamie sheet. Basecoat with Antique White. Shade the inside of each antler with Burnt Umber. Highlight other side with Light Buttermilk, or White, which ever shows up better for you. Ears cut from foamie sheet. Basecoat ear with Sable Brown. Float Burnt Umber along division line of ear. Float Gooseberry Pink along center of ear. Highlight top of ears with Mink Tan. Glue antler’s on rim of jar before gluing ears on. Glue ears on over the antlers. Add a short piece of a pine branch to center of trim covering the antlers and ears. Paint primitive stars with Metallic Emperor’s Gold. Shade one side of each star with Burnt Umber. Glue in place. I also took rusty wire and curled it around a narrow paint brush, then added a rusty jingle bell to the wire and glued it into the pine branch. I added 3 of them. Basecoat the terra cotta saucer with Sable Brown. To finish: with a foam brush apply the Delta Clear Gloss Glaze to entire jar and saucer. Add whatever you like to the saucer. A candle also works well. I added some cinnamon gingerbread ornaments with dry excelsior. |
